Work-Life balance

Outsourcing as a business continues to evolve dramatically. Changes in consumer demand, technology, employment patterns, legislation and corporate social responsibility mean that to remain competitive, we need to sustain flexible and adaptable working practices.

At the same time, we recognise that our people have responsibilities outside work. They may have children or other caring responsibilities, or want time to pursue other interests such as volunteering, sport, recreation, relaxation or relationships.

Balancing the demands of work with enough time and energy for other parts of our lives is a growing concern for many people. When things go wrong there is a high price to pay both economically and socially, to the individual and their families and to the business.

Our approach to work-life balance is therefore about employers and employees working together to identify imaginative working practices that allow the business to better meet the needs of our stakeholders while allowing our people to balance the demands of their work with their outside lives. Our policies fall into four categories:

  • Innovative working arrangements such as home and mobile working.
  • Employee training and development.
  • Family friendly and vocational leave provision.
  • Employee support services.

One example of our approach is our 'Start & Stay Programme'. This takes a whole-life approach to recruiting and retaining people into Vertex. It begins with site tours, mentoring, buddying, and personal development planning.

Our aim is to help our people enjoy a better work-life balance and are able to give their best.
